Why Kurios Ministries?

by Matt Privett

Why Kurios Ministries? Why start a new ministry when there are so many others out there? Why put resources into a new venture?

Those are valid questions, and I want to answer them.

But first, I want to thank you for taking the time to bother with Kurios Ministries. Thank you for coming to Kurios and for taking the time to read. I sincerely hope you will bookmark this site and that it can and will become a trusted resource for the promulgation of truth, found in God's word.

And second, by way of introduction, my name is Matt Privett. I've been teaching the Bible for over three decades now, which is just incredible to think about. From teaching Sunday School as a high schooler to blogging before it was cool to pastoring churches in three states, I have had a wide array of experiences from which to draw when it comes to teaching God's word.

My credentials are ultimately irrelevant, though. This is about the word of God, and if we believe it, and rightly understand it.

WHY THIS MINISTRY EXISTS

While there are a number of worthwhile Christian ministries, those which devote themselves to helping the body of Christ rightly divide His word are few and far between. Kurios Ministries wants to help fill that gap. This ministry is and will be committed to unpacking the biblical text in a straightforward way, letting the Bible speak for itself, while striving not to superimpose preconceived notions and even long held traditions over what God has said in His revelation.

This is a more serious, but subtle issue in the church than many realize. It's not simply a matter of rejecting a Roman Catholic or Eastern Orthodox view of "tradition." Even many of the most conservative, Bible-believing, Bible loving Protestants have blind spots when it comes to traditions. Trust me. I know because I've been there, and if I'm honest with myself, there are probably some I haven't seen yet as well.

That is why I want to always be reforming myself, always conforming to what the word of God says. And it's what I want to help others do as well. This ministry, which derives its name from the Greek word for "Lord," is about bringing each and every one of us under the lordship of Jesus, as He has revealed in His word.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

Without trying to explain everything we believe here, I want to make clear some important basics: This ministry is committed to the inspiration, inerrancy, authority, and sufficiency of Scripture. As such, we believe there is one God who is three Persons, and these Persons are co-eternal, co-substantial, and co-equal. God created the heavens and the earth in six twenty-four hour days. And you can only be saved by the sovereign grace of God through faith alone in the Lord Jesus.

We also believe there is much confusion in the body of Christ about a great many things, and that the fundamental reason for this confusion is a) apathy for the word of God, and b) a lack of understanding about how to read and study the word of God. And as stated above, we believe the vast majority of the body of Christ is governed by many traditions without even realizing it; and we believe this with great humility, because we've been there and done that.

WHAT WE HOPE TO DO GOING FORWARD

As members of the body of Christ we unashamedly proclaim Jesus is Lord. All things are from Him, through Him, and to Him. We exist for His glory and seek to maximized that glory by rightly dividing (accurate handling, cutting straight - 2 Tim 2:15) the word of truth, God's revelation to us through the Scriptures.

Kurios Ministries wants to be found guilty, in a sense, of the same kind of thing the twelve were accused of in Acts 5:28. We want to fill the world with the teaching, using every available means: podcasts, articles, videos, social media... whatever we can find and use as good stewards for the glory of God.

In so doing, we pray that more may come to know how to rightly divide the word of truth. It's a glorious thing.
